The Montreal Star – If you have never seen him play, you haven’t seen it all. From end to end rushes, sometimes losing the puck only to get it back with more determination. The brightest and one of the fastest and most entertaining players to come along in a long time. P.K. has brought class back to this lack lustre organization. Well its only been a long time since any shiny hardware has travelled through the streets of Montreal. Habs fans need to give these hard working Canadiens a break because they did amazingly well over the last 2 years. 2012 will be the best year ever after management realizes that we need to get bigger and faster. Its nice to get to the play offs but winning the cup 25 is everything to a franchise steeped in a winning tradition. Who knows the game better, who knows how to manage players better. Recci and Ryder now they’re two guys who were well trained and put it together with training from a manager that was also trained by Montreal.

Management needs to get better at identifiying what it is we need to get to the next level. Sheldon Sourais who sat on a farm team bench was missed especially with Markov out for the year.

The Montreal Canadiens are taking the show on the road to the Boston Garden for the finally to what was supposed to be over and done with. Game 7 was not supposed to happen they say, Canadiens fast but too small and not enough heart to get through men who deserve it more. The Canadiens are just now learning the important lessons of winning as a team, through tough times and injuries they have earned their position and right to be in a Game 7 this late in the year. Only one game stands in there way, the one and only right of passage.

It is the Boston Bruins that have something to lose in fact a lot more than the Canadiens and it will be a dandy. The Montreal Canadiens have to win tonight and they are desperate enough to do it. Canadiens a very quick and talented team with luck and history onside the Habs will beat the bruins in to submission tonight. I have a good feeling about it, I am mentally prepared and have said my prayers and along with a lot of Montrealers, Quebecers and Canadians behind us, we must do our part to keep the Canadian dream alive. Go Habs Go!

The Montreal Canadiens own the most storied and winning hockey franchise ever. 1993 was a good year but was the last year les Canadiens picked up the nostalgic Stanley Cup and paraded it through familiar street patterns. 1993 was also the last time the Toronto Maple Leafs enjoyed a sniff of playoff success only to lose to Wayne Gretzky and the Kings.

Toronto has not won the highly coveted prize since 1967 almost a generation ago. Boston will always have Harvard a centre of higher learning on there side, but they will learn their best lesson on the streets of Montreal. Tom Tom and GPS systems are already set for Montreal’s parade route where Toronto and other major cities have lost there way – Montreal will find its way to 25 anytime soon and without stopping for directions. Go Habs Go!!!

The Montreal Canadiens stunned the hockey world this week with an enormous comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against the Washington Capitals.

The Montreal Canadiens stunned the hockey world this week with an enormous comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against the Washington Capitals. Winning the series 4-3 in seven games, the Canadiens have added yet another storied win to over 100 years of record braking and being, quite frankly, the most dominant sporting franchise is modern history.

Shut them down. The Canadiens just kept shutting down the high-powered offence of the Caps. It certainly seemed as though we were losing at times, but the system and structure of the Canadiens defensive game plan never faltered.

No shooting lanes. The key was keeping all the shots running straight at Yaroslav Halak buy neutralizing several key players including the leagues most prolific scorer Sergei Ovechkin.

The puck stops here. By far and away the story of the series was the play of Yaroslav Halak was the most entertaining and amazing thing to watch. Saving more than 150 in the last 4 games Halak was the most dominant player on both sides of the ice.

Next victim: The Pittsburg Penguins.

The body of Brian Kachur, 19, was found in the St. Lawrence River last November. (CBC)Two teenage boys face second-degree murder charges in the death of a young Montreal man whose body was found floating in the St. Lawrence River last November.

The two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested Monday afternoon in the city’s LaSalle district, Montreal police Const. Daniel Lacoursière said Tuesday.

The two appeared at the Montreal youth courthouse Tuesday afternoon and were charged with the death of 19-year-old Brian Kachur.

“At that point, we filed a notice of intent to preserve our right to ask for an adult sentence,” said prosecutor Karen Ohayon.

The two accused boys cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Kachur’s body was found by a woman walking in Wilcox Park in Montreal’s Verdun neighbourhood on Nov. 15, one day after he was seen leaving his family’s Verdun home.

The body bore marks of violence, police said.

In January, police released surveillance tape from a park that showed Kachur walking in the company of three other people. Police would not say whether the accused were known by the victim.

Won’t bring son back: mother

The victim’s mother said she doesn’t know whether she should feel relief with the arrest of the two suspects.

The two are only children themselves and their arrest won’t bring her son back, Theresa Brochet told CBC News.

“My baby boy, they have found your killer .… may you now rest in peace,” Brochet wrote on a Facebook page in memory of Kachur.

The two suspects will be back in court April 29.

Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney is juggling competing economic pressures. (CBC)The Canadian dollar posted its biggest single-day gain since July Tuesday as the Bank of Canada warned that it will be raising interest rates.

The dollar closed up 1.58 cents to 100.12 cents US.

The Bank of Canada kept its key lending rate unchanged Tuesday, but warned that its low-rate policy has a limited future.

The bank held the overnight rate at 0.25 per cent, as economists had expected.

But with the economy recovering and inflation running above the bank’s two per cent target, the need for rock-bottom lending rates “is now passing,” it said in a statement.

The extent and timing of any change in the key rate “will depend on the outlook for economic activity and inflation,” the bank said. The bank also noted growth is “proceeding somewhat more rapidly” than it expected earlier this year, increasing the chance of a rate rise in the early summer.

“Simply put, this statement marks a dramatic change in tone by the bank, and doesn’t rule out possible 50 basis point moves,” said Douglas Porter, deputy chief economist with BMO Capital Markets, in a commentary.

Porter predicted a June rate hike is now “likely,” adding that the central bank is clearly much more concerned about inflation than previously indicated.

The bank sets a target level for the overnight rate, which is often called the key interest rate or key policy rate because it indicates the bank’s thinking about the economy.

‘Simply put, this statement marks a dramatic change in tone by the bank, and doesn’t rule out possible 50 basis point moves.’—Douglas Porter, BMO Capital Markets

The overnight rate is the interest rate major financial institutions charge each other for one-day loans.

The rate has been at a very low 0.25 per cent since April 2009, when it was cut from 0.50 per cent as the recession worsened. It was at a recent peak of 4.5 per cent in October 2007.

The bank’s “extraordinary policy” of ultra-low rates was introduced to boost the recovery, the statement said.

The bank is forecasting growth of 3.7 per cent this year, reflecting stronger global activity, strong housing activity in Canada and the bank’s conclusion that policy stimulus advanced some spending into late 2009 and early 2010.

It’s forecasting that Canadian economic growth will slow to 3.1 per cent in 2011 and 1.9 per cent in 2012.

Competing pressures

Bank governor Mark Carney is juggling competing pressures: the need to control inflation with a higher rate; the need to keep the cost of loans low to encourage business and consumer borrowing; and the strong dollar.

A bank rate increase could push the dollar even higher, hurting exports and jobs. While recognizing that growth is strong, the bank warned Tuesday about economic negatives: “the persistent strength of the Canadian dollar, Canada’s poor relative productivity performance and the low absolute level of U.S. demand.”

Although Carney expressed concern about inflation in March, the bank said it is expecting the rate to ease slightly in the second quarter, and remain slightly above the target two per cent rate this year before easing in the second half of 2011.
